Abstract
The Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana) - the largest Islamic gathering in the UK - saw 35,000 people from across the world gather at a farm in Hampshire. Organisers say the event was also host to the largest kitchen in the UK, with over 270,000 meals produced by volunteers on site.

The Hampshire farm was transformed into a global village, including a large-scale kitchen serving South Asian and European meals.

Approximately 200 volunteers worked to mass-produce dishes over the course of the event. Food was prepared in the traditional style on large cooking burners with the most popular dish being allu-gosht (meat and potato curry).

Large quantities of ingredients were needed throughout the event, including: six tonnes of rice, four tonnes of potatoes and one tonne of spices.

There was also an on-site bread factory that produced 300,000 naans at a rate of 10,000 an hour.

All produce came from UK wholesalers with meat and poultry supplied by local butchers. Despite the large amount of meals prepared, leftovers accounted for less than 5% and were recycled accordingly.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was established in 1889 in India. It is led by a spiritual caliphate (a person considered a religious successor to the Islamic prophet Muhammad) with tens of millions of members worldwide. Ahmadi Muslims travel from more than 100 countries to attend the convention on the 200-acre farm.

Now in its 52nd year, the event run by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK is funded by the communality and donations. It aims to promote a sense of peace and brotherhood throughout the faith.
