Abstract
The hospitality industry has been reacting to the announcement that the UK's food system will get its first major review in nearly 75 years.

It has been welcomed by many, with Public Sector Catering 100's chair, Andy Jones, saying on twitter: "So pleased about this #foodstrategy. The Public Sector Caterers are in full sipport and we are all ready to be part of this."

The school meals association, LACA's national chair said: “LACA welcomes the announcement of the new National Food Strategy which will review the food system in England to ensure that it is fit for the 21st century.

“We wholeheartedly endorse the strategy’s mission of delivering ‘safe, healthy, affordable food regardless of where people live or how much they earn.’ This is the reason why LACA have long campaigned for the expansion of Universal Infant Free School Meals so that every child, regardless of income, has access to a hot, healthy and nutritious school meal.

“We look forward to engaging on the strategy and responding to the call for evidence in the summer.”

UKHospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls added: "The UK's food industry is one of our greatest assets. Across the sector we see huge amounts of variety as well as ingenuity. With the country's food and hospitality sectors so intimately linked, it is absolutely vital to the ongoing sucess of hospitality that the food industry is supported.

“Henry has fantastic knowledge of the hospitality sector and understands its relationship with food and the need for a dynamic and supportive food industry.

“We welcome this review of the food industry and what we hope is the beginnings of a fully integrated and joined-up strategy that supports businesses at every step of the way from farm to fork.”

Chief executive of the Food and Drink Federation, Ian Wright CBE, said: "Over the last 70 years we have begun to take for granted that there will be food on our table, yet in truth our food and drink industry is a strategic national asset to be protected. It is central to the economic success and cultural fabric of our country and the UK’s largest manufacturing sector. Its contribution to our future growth, prosperity and sustainability is vital.

"So we applaud Michael Gove’s bold commitment to create a national Food Strategy for England, and embed a holistic approach to policymaking across food and drink. We look forward to working with Henry Dimbleby and his team across the UK Government on these important themes, building on the proposals put forward in our recent Plan for Success.
