The school meals association, LACA's national chair said: “LACA welcomes the announcement of the new National Food Strategy which will review the food system in England to ensure that it is fit for the 21st century.
“We wholeheartedly endorse the strategy’s mission of delivering ‘safe, healthy, affordable food regardless of where people live or how much they earn.’ This is the reason why LACA have long campaigned for the expansion of Universal Infant Free School Meals so that every child, regardless of income, has access to a hot, healthy and nutritious school meal.
“We look forward to engaging on the strategy and responding to the call for evidence in the summer.”
UKHospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls added: "The UK's food industry is one of our greatest assets. Across the sector we see huge amounts of variety as well as ingenuity. With the country's food and hospitality sectors so intimately linked, it is absolutely vital to the ongoing sucess of hospitality that the food industry is supported.
“Henry has fantastic knowledge of the hospitality sector and understands its relationship with food and the need for a dynamic and supportive food industry.
“We welcome this review of the food industry and what we hope is the beginnings of a fully integrated and joined-up strategy that supports businesses at every step of the way from farm to fork.”
