Abstract
Premier Foods and Country Range Group have revealed their five 2018 Bisto Care Chef of the Year finalists, which “celebrates the work of care chefs up and down the country.”

Having teamed up as part of their “on-going commitment in supporting the healthcare channel,” the two companies say recognising care chefs has ‘never been more important.’

In with the chance of winning the £1,000 prize for their care home, are:

  • Sheila Wallen, Ramping Cat Nursing Home (Burford)
  • Anas Alsaadi, Coopers Croft Care Home (Potters Bar)
  • Susan Davidson, Dunlady Nursing Home (Belfast)
  • Carl Weston, Cuffley Manor (Potters Bar)
  • Alexios-Michail Kyriakou, Enstone Care Home (Chipping Norton)

They will each have to prepare and cook a three-cover starter and main course – incorporating a Bisto product in the main and Country Range in the dessert. With just 90 minutes, the total budget must not exceed £2.25.

Judges, including Premier Foods’ executive chef, Mark Rigby; Preston Walker, chef at Oak House Residential Home (Rutland) and Emma Holden (Country Range Group), will be present during the final at Premier Foods’ head office, St Albans.

Channel marketing manager Sarah Robb commened: ‘We’re delighted to have worked in partnership with the Country Range Group to deliver the inaugural Bisto Care Chef competition.

“It’s a great way of showcasing and celebrating some of the culinary work which caterers across the UK do in care homes.

“It’s so important to provide nutritious meals which are cost effective but don’t compromise on quality or taste to care home residents.

“I think our five finalists really have what it takes to do just this and I wish them all the very best of luck.”
