Abstract
Manufacturing company Huhtamaki is co-launching the ‘Solent Cup Recycling Project’ in Southampton and Portsmouth, to ‘significantly’ increase the number of used paper cups that are collected, recycled and turned into functional products.

Together with Gosport Borough Council, Portsmouth City Council, Simply Cups and Bettavend, the company is calling on local businesses to join the scheme ahead of its official launch on 1 December.

Clare Moulson, Huhtamaki UK marketing executive, said: “We aim to continue to accelerate the number of cups being recycled and thus diverted from landfill.

“Paper cups can and are being recycled, and the Gosport Cup Recycling Scheme (which launched in March) has acted as a catalyst for further cup recycling initiatives to be instigated.

“The Solent Cup Recycling Project builds upon the success of the Gosport scheme and we are keen to encourage as many businesses as possible to participate.

|So if you are a business, university, cinema or events/sporting venue, then we encourage you to contact Simply Cups and join the scheme.”

Simply Cups project manager Maddie Hickman added: “We want to encourage local businesses to join our recycling service.

“The Gosport Cup Recycling Scheme has been really successful and now we’ve joined up with Portsmouth City Council, who is equally enthusiastic to roll this project out across the Solent region.

“As an incentive to local businesses, we are offering reduced rates on cup collection membership as well as discounts on a range of cup recycling bins for those who join up before 1 December”.
