Abstract
Environmental charity Hubbub launched an on-street recycling scheme in Leeds one year ago to educate residents and visitors on how to recycle.

The #LeedsByExample recycling campaign installed 186 ‘eye-catching’ recycling points. The volume of recycling almost tripled from 17% to 49% with more than 140,000 cans, 160,000 bottles and 1.2 million coffee cups being recycled.

The campaign had three main aims: to raise awareness about on-the-go recycling, to nudge people to recycle more and to make a lasting legacy of on-the-go recycling.

The success of this recycling campaign has sparked interest from around the UK with Swansea and Edinburgh hosting similar schemes.

In the UK around 5.5 billion plastic bottles, 2.7 billion drinks and 2.5 billion coffee cups are thrown away every year.

Hubbub will create an inspiration guide to help other towns and cities implement on-the-go recycling schemes.
