The research carried out by drinks distributor Matthew Clark revealed that this Christmas, bartenders, waiters and chefs will be loading up on an average of 28 hours overtime, resulting in less sleep than recommended.
Over two thirds (64%) said that they very regularly miss out on sleep and especially so over the festive period, with 10% claiming they get by on just three to four hours’ sleep.
Geoff Brown, marketing director of Matthew Clark, said: “Christmas is a very busy time of the year for the hospitality industry and striking a work life balance is a huge challenge.
“The festive period is prime time for business and to make the most of friends and family, so we want to help our customers take back some to time to spend with loved ones – or just catch up on sleep. Encouraging our customers to place their orders online is just one of the ways we’re helping them save time this Christmas.”
Over a lifetime, hospitality workers will miss out on over 120 hours of sleep - five whole days - over the festive period alone.
