The findings come from job site CV-Library, which showed that hospitality pay increased by 6.1% month-on-month in July – compared to the national inflation rate of +2.3%.
According to the company, salaries industry-wide have grown ‘consistently’ since January this year but 80% still believe that they are underpaid.
Lee Biggins, CV-Library founder and managing director, said: “As organisations struggle to find people to fill their vacancies, we’re seeing many businesses push up their pay packets in a bid to attract the right people to their roles.
“However, a separate study of ours has found that the majority of hospitality professionals believe they aren’t being paid enough.
“If you’re a disgruntled employee, it’s worth looking at average salaries in your industry to ensure that you’re being paid what you should be.”
Although opportunities are still ripe - hospitality jobs increased by 8.1% year-on-year in July - applications conversely fell by 7.1% month-on-month.
Biggins concluded: “With unemployment at a record low, all sectors across the UK are bearing the brunt of continued skills shortages.
“However, it’s clear that the appetite is there for new roles, so long as employers are willing to offer the financial packages that job hunters desire.”
