Abstract
People 1st International is calling for industry influencers to join an employer-led Hospitality Skills and Quality Board to drive a ‘one voice strategy’ on the industry’s skill- related issues.

The board was formed following consultation with employers on the hospitality apprenticeship trailblazer and hospitality apprenticeship board.

Kathryn Porter, director of youth strategy EMEA, Hilton, and the chair of the new board said: “By taking a planned and coordinated approach to skills, our sector can benefit from opportunities and address challenges. That’s why it is critical that those with a strong passion for skills, learning and development join us in taking ownership as employers through the new skills and quality board.”

The two groups have been brought together to form a single skills and quality board for the industry which will ‘drive’ the quality of apprenticeships as well as working to align and improve other workplace skills and vocational education activities across the UK.

The move comes after the acquisition of People 1st International by Workforce Development Trust, which has seen a new leadership team led by Sandra Kelly (formerly head of education at Whitbread) joining People 1st International as UK skills & policy director alongside executive director - international, Jane Rexworthy.

“Our new strategy presents a real opportunity for employers to lead the way in transforming skills, training and professional standards across the hospitality, retail, travel and aviation industries, both in the UK and internationally,” Rexworthy said.
