Abstract
The national trade body of hospital caterers, Hospital Caterers Association (HCA), has appointed Open Door PR as its public relations representatives on a two-year contract starting on December 1st.

HCA national chairman Phil Shelley said: “I am delighted to be working with Open Door PR.

“This is a challenging time for hospital caterers and using Open Door PR’s expertise in this field we will be able to fully support our business goals as well as craft our journey to the national stage.”

The agency will seek national prominence for the HCA’s nutritional and healthcare issue based campaigns. This will include new campaigns and the development of previous campaigns such the ‘last nine yards’, a campaign that strives to deliver full responsibility to the caterer for the whole service.

It will also support HCA plans to expand membership.

Gail Walker, director of Open Door PR adds: “As the most influential trade organisation in this sector we look forward to communicating the excellent work they are doing, whilst adding value to their organisation and shining a national spotlight onto their work.”

With over 300m meals served every year and around £500m spent on food annually by around 300 NHS Trust across approximately 1200 hospitals, the NHS is the UK catering industry’s largest provider of meals. The HCA’s network of members is responsible for the jobs of 35,000 people in the UK.
