HMP Littlehey offers caterers opportunity to take career in rewarding direction
Abstract
HMP Littlehey, which is located is Cambridgeshire, is looking for qualified staff from the catering and hospitality sectors to join their team and help prisoners learn new skills.

Caterers who are tired of working long nights in bars and restaurants are being encouraged to take their cooking skills into the kitchens of prisons this Christmas.

Catering supervisor Steve Allsop joined the service in 2003 and explains the importance of working at HMP Littlehey during the festive period, while urging others to follow in his footsteps. He is responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen which includes supervisory responsibilities for the prisoner workforce.

Steve commented: “Working Christmas isn’t for everyone but I’m really proud to have the job I do working on the frontline and will celebrate Christmas after I’ve finished my shift. My family are used to my job and are really proud of me, so they understand.

“Although it’s a 365-day operation in a prison, the support you get from your colleagues is brilliant and it makes working over Christmas so much easier. We have such a unique bond and camaraderie at HMP Littlehey and we’re always willing to help each other out if needed.”

HMP Littlehey is looking for people who have experience of working in a large kitchen environment or catering for large numbers of people. Applicants also need good communication and team working skills and to want to develop others.

People who would like to take their catering career in a rewarding new direction can apply or find out more by visiting here (salary of £30,902 includes unsocial hours allowance).
