Abstract
Hertfordshire Independent Living Service (HILS) will continue to run its meals-on-wheels service to vulnerable people after winning a new contract with Hertfordshire County Council.

The catering contract, which runs until 2025, currently delivers over 517,000 meals to individuals and at lunch clubs every year.

Councillor Tim Hutchings, cabinet member for Public Health and Prevention, said: “HILS has an impressive track record, not just delivering meals on wheels for those most in need, but also provides a range of additional community services as part of the county council’s goal for all residents to live independent, healthy and long lives.”

HILS also provides a nutritional review of service users if there any concerns about people’s weight loss or concerns raised by family members.

The catering service can be tailor-made for malnourished residents or if they have any specific cultural and religious beliefs.
