Abstract
Allowing whole primary schools to “take part in the festive celebrations,” Hertfordshire Catering Limited (HCL) has served around 80,000 Christmas dinners across its Hertfordshire school portfolio this month (December).
As the caterer for 94% of primary schools in the region, HCL served pupils a traditional roast turkey dinner comprising Red Tractor certified turkey breast, roast potatoes, vegetables and all the trimmings, while vegetarians were offered a quorn fillet. For dessert, there was a choice of Christmas ice cream, seasonal biscuit or chocolate Krispie pudding.
Chief Executive Lin O’Brien said “Christmas is the busiest time of year for school meals, with many pupils who normally eat packed lunches preferring to join in with the festive food.
“It’s a huge undertaking to serve up so many Christmas meals but our kitchen staff make a real effort to make sure the whole school can take part in the festive celebrations.”
