Abstract
A pupil at Henbury Court Primary Academy (part of the Endeavour Academies Trust in Bristol) has won a design competition which was instigated to get children excited about nutritious school food.

Endeavour partnered with food wholesaler and catering provider Creed Foodservice, to run an academy-wide design competition, with the winning design showcased on the outfit of the school catering unit.

Phil Vickery, non-executive director at Creed Foodservice, commented: “It’s great to get kids more involved and connected with the food they are eating. Initiatives like this get them thinking about the origin of the food on their plates, and help them explore topics such as nutrition, provenance and food waste.

“Giving them the chance to be involved with the look and feel of their dining space, helps them feel more invested in what they are eating too. We shouldn’t simply be feeding kids, but educating them about their food too.

“Creed Foodservice has worked with customers in the education sector for over 40 years, and are no stranger to supporting the sector face a host of unique challenges - from strict budgets and specific serving methods, to nutritional standards and a reduced workforce.”

Habiba Begum created the winning design of a pacmac gobbling up an array of colourful fruit and vegetables. She was presented with a giant hamper packed with arts and crafts materials, as well as awarded a trip to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm for her and all of her classmates.

Headteacher Jake Howarth-Brown, added: “We’re so proud of Habiba and glad our design won the competition. For us, at Henbury Court, we knew we had the winning entry right from when we first set eyes upon it. The healthy eating message is clear, colourful and well thought out. We’re pleased that her artwork will be represented in all four of our schools.”

More than just a food provider, Creed aims to go above and beyond to deliver a great food experience for children across the country.
