Chicken Town is a restaurant concept that aims to tackle childhood obesity at its source. The restaurant offers healthier alternatives to the area’s existing fast food shops.
Director Ben Rymer, said: “By providing better versions of a fast food favourite, young people will start to think about their diet and how it affects their well being.”
It will serve herb fed free range chicken which will be steamed prior to flash frying, with sides such as baked sweet potato wedges, fresh coleslaw and salads.
The project will also deliver a range of outreach community initiatives aimed at encouraging young people to think about what they eat and to make positive changes.
The restaurant will serve high quality chicken meals to young people in the daytime at the same price as local chicken shops, and will operate as a neighbourhood restaurant in the evening.
All of the revenue from evening trade will go to support the daytime £2 ‘Junior Specials’.
Tottenham has some of the highest child obesity rates in the UK, with over 40% of 11-year-olds classified as obese.
