The Hospital Caterers’ Association (HCA) and the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) are joint organisers of the day.
They hope to use the occasion to raise awareness of the importance of good nutrition and hydration for the health of people who are looked after in a healthcare setting.
HCA national vice chairman Andy Jones said that while corporate sponsorship was an important part of promoting Nutrition Day, the ideas and involvement of individual was key to the success of the event.
“We still need your help to make Nutrition Day 2013 a success.
“You are a vital part of what we do and what we provide to our patients and clients. So instead of sponsorship, we would like to invite you to support the day by offering some of your time on Nutrition Day 2013 to help our members in making a real difference to the people with serve.
“There are many opportunities for you to get involved in Nutrition Day 2013.”
Among the suggestions put forward are:
• volunteer to work in the community with meal on wheels
• help out in a hospital environment
• start a lunch club in your company restaurants/canteens
• put the event on your websites, blogs and social media networks
• share pictures of your people and you working in the areas suggested
