Abstract
Following the launch of HES Catering Services’ Veggie Run app in Havering council (April), it has just run a ‘healthy school catered lunch’ competition to further drive outdoor activity in local primary schools.

Encouraging all pupils aged 4-11 to take part, the Veggie Run initiative saw nearly 70, 4-11 year olds awarded a brand new bike, helmet and Veggie Run water bottle as their prize.

The scheme invited Havering primary schoolchildren to collect Crunch Brunch character badges (from the app) over a five-week period. Once collected, all participants’ details were entered into a prize draw with one girl and boy from each school awarded the bike prize.

St Alban's Catholic Primary School head teacher, Lisa Schaberg, praised the scheme for “making a real difference to the lives of our children and, in turn, their families.”

Trevor Cook, assistant director for Education Services, added: “At the beginning of the summer term, launched the innovative Veggie RUN app to support a healthy school catered lunch and exercise.

“As a borough, we want to support all children to have to the best start in life, and by awarding nearly 70 children through Veggie Run today we are able to promote the benefits of outdoor activity.”

The news follows Havering Education Service’s (HES) two award wins at LACA: Main Event last week.
