Abstract
A new kitchen will be built at a primary school in Malawi thanks to the charitable efforts of Glasgow Caledonian University’s (GCU) catering team, who raised over £7,000 for Scottish charity Mary’s Meals.

Organised by Encore’s hospitality representative at GCU, June Healy, the money was raised through a series of collections including a ticketed dance, baking sales and auctions.

Mary’s Meals sets up community-run school feeding programmes in some of the world’s poorest areas, where hunger and poverty prevent children from attending school and gaining an education.

Frank McCabe, Encore’s manager at GCU, said: “Mary’s Meals is an excellent cause and the work they do around the world is extremely beneficial to the lives of so many.

“Overall, this has been a hugely successful fundraising campaign and I’d like to thank all of the team, and of course the students and University staff who donated.”

Encore Hospitality, the catering arm of Cordia Services LLP, manages the restaurants and cafes in many of Glasgow’s museums, theatres, historical venues and educational establishments.
