To celebrate the start of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games we have found our favourite associated food facts about the biggest sporting event this year.
  • The Paris Olympics will deliver 13 million meals, the equivalent of the amount provided at ten football World Cup tournaments. It is the largest event catering operation in the world.
  • Almost 20m cold drinks will be consumed during the Olympic Games.
  • 47,000 reusable plates will debut in the main restaurant at Olympic Village.
  • At least 60% of the food provided to spectators at the Paris Olympics is going to be vegetarian.
  • Philipp Wurz, Paris 2024's head of food, says that around 1,200 Michelin-starred meals will be served a day out of 40,000 overall.
  • 600–800 baguettes will be baked a day for athletes.
  • 80% of the menu is being sourced from France (25% within 15 miles of Paris).
  • The main restaurant in the village has been created in an old electrical factory and has the capacity to seat 3,500 in one sitting.
