Abstract
Here is another edition of Fun Friday Food Facts to end another busy week.
  • Around 500 Brits are injured while dipping their biscuits into a hot drink every year.
  • Roman chef Apicius produced the first surviving cookbook. In it he suggests the following appetisers for a banquet - sow’s udders stuffed with salted sea urchins, brains cooked with milk and eggs, boiled tree fungi with peppered fish-fat sauce, and sea urchins with spices, honey, oil, and egg sauce.
  • One quarter of the world’s fresh water supply is used to grow food that is never eaten.
  • Sausages are older than the bible! The first written mention of sausages is in the 4,000 year old texts from the ancient Sumerians of Mesopotamia.
  • 7Up was originally called ‘Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda’ and it was launched two weeks before the Wall Street Crash in 1929.
