Fun Friday Food Facts 2019 Vol. 22
Abstract
Yesterday was the 4 July so to celebrate with our friends across the pond we have created an American edition of Friday Food Facts.
  • The lollipop was first invented in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1908 by George Smith, who enjoyed going to the races so much that he named his creation after a competitor of the time, a horse named Lolly Pop.
  • A website has pulled together the ultimate guide to gluttony – a map showing all 50 US states and a restaurant in each with a food challenge, from the 74oz steak in Montana to the 12,000-calorie, 4lb burger in Tennessee.
  • The amount of sugar an average American consumes in five days is more than the average American did in an entire year 200 years ago.
  • Every 4 July, there are an estimated 150 million hot dogs consumed in the US. The average hot dog is consumed in six bites.
  • A Big Mac from McDonalds can sit for as many as 12 years without any sign of decay.
