Abstract
With the Women's World Cup in full swing, time to kick off what we hope to be a sunshine-filled weekend with another edition of Friday Food Facts.
- Astronauts do not consume sodas or carbonated drinks in space because the lack of gravity to separate the liquid and gas in the stomach leads to a kind of vomiting called 'wet burping'.
- Figs are pollinated by female wasps, which lose their wings in the process of pollination. The wasp has no way to get out of the fig and so they die inside and then the fig's enzymes breakdown and dissolve the wasp.
- Chickpeas, the main ingredient of hummus, can be eaten straight from the tin, should you wish, as they have already been cooked.
- Pinatex is a fruit-based vegan leather made from pineapple leaf fibres, while orange peel is used to create a cellulose-based fabric that is soft and silky.
