Just as the kids are breaking up for half term here's our latest edition of Friday Food Facts!
- While you probably consider slurping noodles to be rude, this is not the case in Japan. In fact, slurping is not only acceptable, but encouraged, as it's believed to improve the noodles' flavor and considered to be evidence that you enjoyed your meal.
- The alcohol, such as wine, added to food does not all evaporate when it is cooked. Even after a hour in the oven, up to 25% of the alcohol content remains.
- Brunch was invented by a British magazine in the 1800s as a name for the perfect meal for ’Saturday-night carousers’ - basically perfect for unruly, drunkards with a stinking hangover.
- Fresh food is so attractive to astronauts that they toasted with salad when they were able to cultivate a few lettuce heads on the International Space Station three years ago.
