Fun Friday Food Facts 2017 Vol. 17
Abstract
In the week where the Duke of Edinburgh retired, we found some food facts worthy of a knighthood.

Tour de France cyclists burn 8,000 calories a day, and the secret food of choice in the saddle is ricecakes – not dry, shop-bought ones, but moist, dense cooked rice balls fortified with cream cheese or egg.

Before electricity there were Spice Clocks – a clock that opened a different compartment of spices each hour so people could know the time by the taste and aroma.

In 1814, a series of rupturing beer vats in a brewery in Tottenham Court Road caused a tidal wave of 1.5 million litres of beer. It destroyed two houses, submerged neighbouring streets and killed eight people after the beer surged through a room of people gathered for a wake.

In most advertisements for milk the white liquid you see is actually thinned down white paint.

Are you aware that over 100 million Haribo golden bears are produced each day.
