Abstract
A new survey from Leonardo Hotels reveals that the classic fry up is still Britain’s favourite breakfast option (83%).

Leonardo Hotels surveyed 2,000 adults from all over the UK to uncover the truth behind our breakfast habits.

Amongst the top five British breakfast options were cereal (81%), a bacon sarnie (79%), a croissant (78%) and pancakes (77%). Poached eggs and avocado came in 18th place, followed by fishy kedgeree and the Spanish dish, huevos rancheros.

The 2,000 people surveyed where asked what made the perfect fry up. 62% of Brits said there should be toast, 53% wanted a fried egg and only 29% liked black pudding and tomato ketchup on their breakfast.

However 16 to 24-year-olds voted the full English as their sixth most popular breakfast.

As the nation puts more emphasis on healthy eating new breakfast dishes have become more popular. 61% of Brits surveyed said they enjoyed a bowl of yoghurt and granola, while 59% liked a smoothie.

Fruit juice was voted the UK’s favourite breakfast drink by the public. English breakfast tea came in second place, followed by white coffee and a cappuccino in fourth place.

In recent years a boozy brunch has become more popular. When it comes to cocktails, British people are ordering a bloody Mary (24%), followed by a Bellini (23%) and some choose a Mimosa (18%).
