Abstract
Fresh produce supplier Fresh Direct has this week won a Greener Path Award for “consistently achieving 0% to landfill in 2017 for all of its (four) English depots.”

Having worked with environmental waste management company, ACM Environmental PLC, Fresh Direct diverted waste from landfill across its depots (Bicester, Dagenham, Cambridge and Wigan) in 2017 – demonstrating ‘exemplary effort’ and achievement in minimizing waste, boosting recycling and increasing landfill diversion.

Ian Humphryes, Fresh Direct supply chain director, commented: “Working in partnership with ACM Environmental, we have managed to reach our optimum environmental performance

“ACM has a unique business model supported by a nationally-integrated network of recycling and reprocessing facilities. This enables Fresh Direct to minimise the amount of waste it produces, optimise its recycling levels, eliminate the use of landfill, and reduce its impact on the environment with significantly reduced costs.”

ACM Environmental chief executive, Andy Jacobs, added: “We are delighted that Fresh Direct is a recipient of the Zero Waste to Landfill Award.

“We have worked in partnership with them to help implement an environmentally-sound waste management strategy and to see them achieve such impressive landfill diversion results is extremely gratifying.”
