Abstract
Four butchery managers from Booker Group were rewarded with individual honours at the recent Institute of Meat and The Worshipful Company of Butchers’ annual prize-giving in the company of HRH The Princess Royal.

Peter Howarth, Kevin King and Roy Mason, who have worked for Booker for a combined 26 years, joined the elite ranks of IoM-accredited Master Butcher and can now use the title MB.Inst.M. To achieve this award, each of them demonstrated ‘excellent trade skills, knowledge and experience’, built over a number of years.

Letitia Redfern, butchery manager at Booker Carlisle, was recognised as the Best Multiple Retailer Apprentice for her excellent performance whilst completing her Level 3 Butchery Apprenticeship. Held at Butchers Hall, the awards event has been running for almost 30 years and seeks to celebrate individual achievement in the meat and poultry industry.

Andrew Muldoon, chief operating officer at Booker, commented: “Booker Group employs 20% of all Master Butchers in the UK, something we are very proud of. It is testament to the rigour of our in-house training that we also have a star apprentice, who now also mentors other butchery trainees developing their careers with the business.

“Having this expertise and skilled butchers across our branches is something that our customer tell us is crucial to help them keep their costs low, operate an efficient kitchen and also increases their profits. Well done to all four colleagues and long may the tradition of butchery excellence at Booker continue.”
