Forum to address ‘next steps’ in reducing food waste and plastic packaging

Abstract
A look at the priorities for policy in tackling the volumes of food waste and plastic packaging we generate will be the focus of an online forum on September 22nd.

Hosted by the Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum, the policy conference will be addressed by David Bellamy, senior environment policy manager with the Food and Drink Federation; Jane Marren, group managing director of Company Shop Group; and Héloïse Pestel, agricultural counselor at the Embassy of France in London.

Areas for discussion include:

* Policy priorities for reducing food packaging and waste
* Food surplus distribution schemes - their role and how they and supply chain partners have been impacted by Covid-19
* Reducing household and business waste
* Reducing waste in agriculture - and mitigating the effect of changes in climate, and the pandemic, on agricultural waste
* Single use plastics in the food and drink industry - progress and next steps for its reduction
* What more needs to be done across the retail and hospitality sectors

Other contributors will include a ‘senior speaker’ from WRAP; Ringaile Bulatović-Schumer, Culture Excellence; Charlotte Morton, Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association; Dr Adam Read, SUEZ; Andrew Stephen, The Sustainable Restaurant Association; Alex Vlassopulos, Kitche; and Professor Carol Wagstaff, University of Reading and BBSRC Horticulture Quality and Food Loss Network.
