Former Sodexo boss Jansen joins supplier Brakes

Jansen, who had joined Sodexo as head of its UK and Ireland arm in 2004, was originally expected to take over as group chief executive of Brakes at the beginning of February. But Sodexo said there were some complicated parts of the business that needed Jansen's short-term continued involvement and proposed that he temporarily retain responsibility for these while heading up Brakes. But Compass, a major competitor to Sodexo and the largest customer of Brakes, complained about the potential conflict of interest this would present, Subsequently Jansen's joining date at Brakes was put back until July 1st. Commenting on his new role today Jansen said: "Brakes Group is renowned for its excellent reputation, talented people and strong relationships. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the business and build on its considerable success in the UK, Ireland, France and Sweden." Dwight Poler, Brakes Group chairman said: "Philip Jansen is an outstanding appointment who will build on the group's strong foundations. I would like to welcome him to the role and wish him every success as he takes the company into the next exciting phase of growth." Prior to his time with Sodexo, Jansen held several senior roles within various industries including MyTravel Group plc, TeleWest communications and Procter and Gamble. With an annual turnover of about £2.6 billion, Brakes Group is a leading supplier to the foodservice sector in the UK, Ireland, France and Sweden. The group comprises a family of specialist businesses which are able to deliver everything the caterer needs, including their very successful own brand ranges developed specifically for chefs. It employs over 10,000 people and supplies a diverse catering customer base, including, independent pubs, restaurants and hotels, schools, hospitals, contract caterers and well known national chains.
