Foodhub data revealed a third of Brits (33%) said their favourite American dish was a burger, followed by southern fried chicken (28%) and deep-pan pizza (23%). Almost one in ten Brits order an American takeaway at least once a fortnight.
When it comes to side dishes there was no surprise that almost half of those surveyed selected fries as their favourite, with onion rings in second place with 34%. For dessert the survey found that cheesecake was the most popular followed by apple pie (27%) and pancakes (26%).
Ardian Mula, Foodhub spokesperson, said: “American dishes are such a staple cuisine in our everyday lives. As a nation, we regularly sit back and enjoy a meal from across the pond, whether its burgers, hot dogs or barbecue ribs.
“I was surprised to see that 14% of participants claimed they’d never ordered American cuisine from a takeaway, as there are so many options to choose from. The research discovered a generational divide when it comes to American cuisine, as 30% of 65 and overs claimed they never order American food while 10% of 18–24-year-old Brits order American cuisine five times a week.
