Food waste and plastic reduction conference announced

Abstract
A conference discussing the next steps for food packaging and waste policy across the UK has been announced.

The Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum policy conference will be held on the Morning of 16 July 2019 in Central London.

 

It will include talks from:

  • Ben Elliot, Food Surplus and Waste Champion
  • 
Dr David Moon, Head of Business Collaboration, WRAP
  • 
Marcel Arsand, Sustainability Manager, UK and Nordics, Ball Beverage Packaging Europe
  • Andrew Bird, Head of Recycling and Fleet Services, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council
  • Jamie Crummie, Too Good To Go;
  • Dr Sally Russell, University of Leeds;
  • Paul Vanston, INCPEN and
  • Suzanne Westlake, Ocado

 

So far, the agenda includes:

  • The UK Plastics Pact and the Resources and Waste Strategy - priorities for reducing food and packaging waste across the UK;
  • Priorities for developing and innovating food and drink packaging - reducing plastic waste, increasingly recyclability and maintaining shelf-life;
  • Plastic collection, extended producer responsibility and priorities for a possible DRS;
  • Reducing food waste and encouraging the effective redistribution of surplus food - local collections and waste management, industry engagement and driving behaviour change; and
  • Promoting awareness of food waste and surplus - the view from the Food Surplus and Waste Champion.
