It will take place in central London on November 3 and among the speakers will be Dr Rachel Pryke, clinical champion for nutrition for health at the Royal College of General Practitioners; Chris Askew, chief executive of Diabetes UK and Dr Adrienne Cullum, the obesity project lead with NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).
Also due to speak are Guy Parker, chief executive of the Advertising Standards Authority, Gavin Partington, director general of the British Soft Drinks Association, Shaleen Meelu, of Healthy Futures and Kim Roberts, HENRY (Health, Exercise, Nutrition for the Really Young).
Organisers say: “With the Government’s upcoming childhood obesity strategy, due to be released this summer, this timely seminar will be an opportunity to assess the future of obesity policy in England.
“Sessions will discuss policy priorities for improving the nutritional content of foods, the challenges of reducing sugar consumption, and latest thinking on preventative measures for addressing the prevalence of obesity during early years.
“The conference also takes place in light of the proposed introduction of a soft drinks industry levy and following the launch by the Committee of Advertising Practice of a consultation on regulating advertising HFSS foods to children.”
