Abstract
The first Bocuse d'Or Europe is being staged in Stavanger, Norway this July when 20 chefs will compete for a place in the finals next year.
Organisers say the event with five European countries that finished first in the last contest joined by 15 newcomers, will open the contest to "new cuisine traditions and talents giving Europe a new gastronomic reference."
Stavanger is hosting an international Food for the Future conference on July 1 when the Bocuse d'Or Europe will be held as part of a Buffet trade exhibition dedicated to out-of-home catering.
Like the main Bocuse d'Or - in Lyon, France on January 28-29, 2009 - the event will take place over two days with chef entrants performing in open kitchen cubicles watched by the audience as they prepare a meat and fish dish. Judges will include the best chefs from the participating countries.
The new concept, offering entry to nations that have never had a previous taste of Bocuse d'Or, has been trialled in South America where the Copa Azteca allowed Argentina, Brazil and Mexico to earn a place at the last Lyons finals.
