Extra funding for Fife schools to encourage healthy eating

15th Feb 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
Schools in Fife are set to benefit from an additional £19,000 of funding from the Scottish Government to encourage pupils to take more care of their health.
Fife is already at the forefront of health promotion with several schools in the area receiving national recognition for the work they have done and projects being run by schools and youth groups. Garry Crosbie, senior education manager, commented: "One of Fife Council's key commitments is to make sure that pupils eat well, are active and take care of their health, this will help to ensure that they gain the most from their time in school." This extra funding is also used to develop better materials, provide staff training and help increase the levels of physical activity. Councillor Douglas Chapman Chair of the Education and Children Service Committee added: "Poor diet can considerably affect how young people learn. One of Fife Council's eight key priorities is to raise attainment and this extra funding announced today encourages us to take another step towards having happy, healthy children who are ready to learn."
