Abstract
On the 28th April 2013, Eurostar and Waitrose announced a partnership, which sees Britain’s favourite supermarket (Which? Annual Supermarket Satisfaction Survey) providing on-board refreshments to those travelling in the standard class between London and mainland Europe.

The selection of sandwiches, snacks, drinks and hot dishes will be arriving on-board to all Eurostar services come 30th April. With a range spanning over 20 products, there is certain to be something to satisfy all pan-European dietaries, from mushroom risotto, to a tapas selection. The service will also include the traditional British sandwiches and the French classic, Croque Monsieur.

The newest culinary pairing has marked Waitrose’s first key move into on-board food and its first significant European journey.

David Morton, Waitrose business to business director, stated: “This is a very exciting opportunity for us to work with such a prestigious brand, which shares our commitment to quality and service. To be the first food brand that Eurostar passengers experience when they are visiting Britain is tremendously powerful as we seek to expand our presence within Northern Europe.”

Upgrading both the Standard Premier and Business Premier catering services, Eurostar’s partnership will complete a trio of culinary changes that will see Eurostar passengers being offered top-quality refreshments. For various French and Belgium travellers, this may be their first taste of British national dishes.

For Business Premier passengers, Eurostar has also released a new range of foods for their Summer menu. Providing assistance for this menu, is culinary director and Michelin-starred chef, Raymond Blanc. These Summer options will focus heavily on season flavours, fruits and vegetables. They may even feature some of Blanc’s very own family recipes.
