Abstract
A scientific conference on plant-based nutrition - VegMed - is launching in the UK next year, after six successful years in Germany.

The two-day event will take place at King’s College (London) from 12-13 October 2019, where American physicians Dr Michael Greger and Dr Michael Klapper will give keynote talks. The full line-up will be announced next year.

Open exclusively to medical professionals on the 12th, VegMed invites the general public to attend on the 13th.

After six shows in Germany, ProVeg UK and Plant-Based Health Professionals UK have partnered to bring the event to London.

Amy Odene, manager of VegMed for ProVeg UK, said: “It is widely accepted that some of the UK’s biggest killers are preventable with diet and lifestyle, yet only a handful of hours are dedicated to nutritional education in medical professional training here in the UK.

“So we’re hosting VegMed to provide a much-needed platform for the latest research and information in plant-based nutrition, which can play a major and still largely underestimated role in preventing and reversing disease, improving overall health and reducing the strain on our increasingly under-pressure NHS.”

Co-founder of Plant-Based Health Professionals UK, Shireen Kassam, added: “I am delighted to be involved in bringing VegMed to the UK. The health benefits of a predominantly plant-based diet are still not fully appreciated by the medical community in the UK.

“The conference will give us the opportunity to share UK expertise alongside some of the international pioneers in the field of plant-based nutrition.

“I hope it will inspire a new generation of healthcare professionals to use plant-based nutrition for disease prevention and reversal in their own clinical practice.”
