Abstract
The Birmingham office of Eurest, which is part of Compass Group UK and Ireland, has raised £2,206.96 through a ‘sleep out’ initiative.

On Thursday 28 October ten members of staff spent 12 hours (from 7pm until 7am) out in the cold near the Parklands headquarters. The money raised went to the Padley Group who support people facing homelessness, debt, addiction, mental health issues and long term unemployment.

Padley Group runs 11, three-hour support sessions for up to six beneficiaries, each week. The sessions, which include food, drinks, clothing, toiletries, bathroom and shower facilities and activities, cost on average £200 to run. So, Eurest and its staff have in effect funded a week’s worth.

Cathy Lea, people business partner at Eurest, said: Normally, The Padley Group organises a ‘sleep out’ to coincide with World Homeless Day, an annual event on 10 October, in my hometown of Derby.

“However, this year it was cancelled. Andy heard how disappointed I was and took it upon himself to rally the troops! We created a JustGiving page and asked for sponsors, raising an amazing £2,206.96.

“The night was long, cold and very uncomfortable, but this is what it’s really like for homeless people, all the time not just for one night! So, it raised awareness amongst the team, as well as raising funds for the charity. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.”

Seasonal menus and fresh British ingredients are key to Eurest’s offering, taking a new approach to workplace catering that supports workers across the UK to ‘live happier, more productive lives’. For more information about Eurest visit: https://www.eurest.co.uk/.
