Over the last 30 years NSMW has been raising awareness about the importance of nutritious school meals. NSMW believes ‘it is more important than ever’ that children return to eating hot balanced meals at lunchtime.
NSMW had added importance last year with children continuing to be away from the school environment due to isolation periods and many months away from education.
Each of the Essential Cuisine recipes contain an ingredients list, a method and an image to help school chefs replicate the dish. The recipes include:
Monday- Mix it Up Monday: vegan mole taco, chole masala and barbeque lentil stuffed tomatoes
Tuesday- Food for Fuel: Shepard’s pie with cheddar cheese mash, spaghetti vegannese and chermola spiced wrap
Wednesday- Roast Dinner Day: The Essential roast dinner, Yorkshire pudding wrap and beetroot & squash Wellington
Thursday- Plant-based Power Lunch: bulgar wheat & herb salad, Sri Lankan curry with sticky rice and vegan sausage casserole
Friday- School Food Challenge: fish pie with smoke cheese potato crust, South Indian crab cakes and vegan, mushroom, chestnut & cranberry tart
