Abstract
Praising catering company Elior’s chef manager, Kelly Gavriliuc, for “setting a new standard for the training and development of staff,” she took home Best Care Home Chef Mentor at the 2018 Chef Mentor Awards this week (17 July).

Based at Four Seasons Aspen Lodge, Gavriliuc ‘impressed’ judges with her willingness to share skills, knowledge and expertise; her mastery of texture modified food; and ability to act as a role model.

She also rolled out texture modified food training at Four Seasons Health Care (FSHC) homes across the east of England, with Sarah Wass, operations director for Elior healthcare commenting: “Kelly leaves chefs inspired, confident and producing texture modified food that looks and tastes great.

“I can’t stress enough what a phenomenal difference she’s made to the lives of hundreds of residents. And it’s been noticed at the very top – FSHC senior management now want Kelly in the rest of the business.”

Chair of the judging panel chef Cyrus Todiwala added: “There are so many chefs who, sometimes behind the scenes, work tirelessly to train and develop people in our industry.

“The Mentor Awards are unique in recognising these brilliant people, who are crucial to the growth and development of our industry.”

The Chef Mentor Award celebrates individuals who ‘excel’ in their willingness to share skills, knowledge and expertise; act as a role model; be held in high regard by colleagues and take a personal interest in the mentoring relationship. They must also demonstrate enthusiasm, valuing learning and giving constructive criticism.

Gavriliuc also won Elior’s 2017 Chef Award having “quickly developed her skills to the same level as (its) most senior development chefs.”

The 2018 Chef Mentor Awards were announced on Tuesday (17 June) at Celtic Manor as part of the H&C EXPO.
