Launched by Myles Bremner, Director of the School Food Plan at an event in Bexleyheath, the innovative ‘Greens’ family will shortly be appearing in dining halls across the country; forming part of Eden’s Food Farm offer.
The one-day event was also attended by Katrina Kollegaeva from Food for Life Catering Mark, the Soil Association’s award scheme, along with head teachers and consultants.
Paul Salibsury, regional director of Eden, said: “The ‘Greens’ are a family of fun, superhero characters that will help children to understand sometimes-complex areas such as growing, health and nutrition, ethical sourcing and environmental concerns in a simple way.
“From Forrest, the grandfather who represents the earth, and Brooke, the mother who represents water, to Ray, the father who represents the sun; we’ve created a family unit that young children can relate to. We’ve also included Faith and Miles, the two children in the family that depict social and environmental concerns.”
“Following the launch, St Peter and St Paul Primary Academy in Bromley, Kent opened its newly-refurbished dining hall, which includes the new ‘Greens’ family. The school has already reported an increase of 24% in the number of pupils opting for school lunch since the ‘Greens’ were added to the lunchtime menu!”
Bremnar added: "Initiatives like Eden's Greens family are an excellent way of capturing young children’s imagination and it is fantastic to see Eden wanting to support schools to create a great food culture."
