Abstract
The long-awaited, second Public Sector Catering Expo was launched today (March 15th) with business leaders, senior catering directors and managers from across the industry at the NEC in Birmingham.

The free-to-attend event, is due to hear a virtual address by Defra Minister Victoria Prentis, who will outline the Government’s vision for public sector food and catering, the proposed changes to this policy area and how caterers can share their views on the new proposals.

A keynote address will be delivered by TV wildlife presenter Chris Packham on why the UK ‘must hit net-zero targets’ on carbon emissions.

He will explain how changing the construction of menus, sourcing more locally and educating customers can all contribute to achieving the global goals.

There will also be a ‘State of the Industry’ panel discussion involving the heads of all the UK’s major catering organisations covering schools, hospitals, the care sector, prisons, universities, the military and catering colleges.

Alongside all this there will run a major exhibition from the all the sector’s key suppliers and, of course, the start of Exercise Joint Caterer, the premier showcase competition for the UK military’s chefs and caterers.

Tomorrow (March 16th) will turn the focus on chefs from across public sector catering doing cooking demonstrations to produce meals that they typically prepare for pupils, patients, elderly in care setting, students and prisoners.

This will be hosted by TV chef and medical professional Dr Rupy Aujla, who will talk to the chefs about their work and the opportunities in the sector for catering students.
