Abstract
During the forthcoming Brighton Festival, City College Brighton and Hove’s Gallery Restaurant is hosting an innovative new fine dining restaurant where local artists will be creating new pieces inspired by the venue and its customers.
'Residence' will be Brighton's first 'pop-up' restaurant and at each meal, there will be an artist in residence on site, charged with creating an original work in front of, and sometimes including, the diners. These pieces will gradually fill the walls of the restaurant each day, culminating with a charity auction both online and onsite. Organiser Euan MacDonald said: "Nothing like this has ever been attempted before. The response from the artists has been amazing, and by involving the college we really hope to support the city's culinary as well as artistic future." City College's Restaurant Supervisor/Lecturer Chris Williams said: "This is a great opportunity for our students to get some genuine restaurant experience as well as supporting the city and the festival. It's a very exciting concept and we're looking forward to seeing artists at work while showing Brighton how talented our students are. You won't find better food, service or value for money anywhere else in town." Catering students from the College will be working alongside professional chefs and front-of-house staff and wines will be overseen, with onsite tasting, by Henry Butler of Hanover's Butlers Wine Cellar. The Dark Star Brewery is providing beer for some dishes, as well as their Espresso beer at the end of the meal. Prices range from £12.50 (lunch and pre-theatre) to £16.50 (dinner) for three courses. Bookings can be made online at www.residencepop-up.com or by calling 01273 667711
