Abstract
Is it any wonder that obesity levels continue to rise, when 2.2 million parents claim to ‘consistently’ break diets at family restaurants due to ‘lack of choice.’

The latest survey from YouGov (commissioned by restaurant brand Frankie & Benny’s) reveals that a shocking number of consumers are forced to break their healthy eating habits as family eateries simply do not cater for their needs.

It comes as consumers demand greater choice and variety from restaurants to keep in line with their changing dietary needs: 12% of Brits now follow a meat-free diet and a further 1 in 10 avoids gluten completely.

Key findings from the survey include:

  • More than 1 in 3 parents in Scotland and the South of England have had to eat something that ‘wasn’t as healthy as they would have liked’
  • This lowers to 1 in 5 in London, the North, Midlands, and East of England
  • 12% of parents with children aged 18 and under have gone without food when eating out with them
  • 51% of parents who eat at family restaurants decide where to go based on what their children want, rather than what they want
