The conference will focus on strategies for improving diabetes in terms of prevention, access and digital technology.
The agenda includes keynote addresses from Professor Jonathan Valabhji, national clinical director for Diabetes and Obesity, Dr Jenifer Smith, programme director at Public Health England, Dr Partha Kar, consultant in diabetes and endocrinology at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and Dr Neel Basudev, diabetes lead at South London Health Innovation Network.
There will be a discussion on the priorities for prevention of type 2 diabetes. Matt Hancock, health secretary, believes ‘prevention is better than cure’. The government has set a plan of action to significantly reduce child obesity by 2020.
