Abstract
David Cameron has once again pledged to save Universal Infant Free School Meals from the scrap heap in the upcoming November Spending Review.
During a question and answer session at this afternoon’s Prime Minister’s Questions, Sharon Hodgson, Labour MP for Washington and Sunderland West, asked the PM if ‘he will guarantee now, not to scrap UIFSM so he doesn’t go down in history as Dave, the dinner snatcher?’
Cameron responded: “I’m immensely proud that it was a government I lead that introduced this policy. 13 years of a Labour government, did they ever do that? Do you remember the infant free school meals bill from the Labour Party? No.
“I’m proud of what we’ve done and we’ll be keeping it.”
Hodgson previously wrote an open letter to George Osborne detailing her constituent's concerns about scrapping the UIFSM scheme.
The upcoming Spending Review is expected on 25th November 2015.
