Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events, the building’s hospitality and food provider, said the judges were impressed with its green initiatives including the use of 'environmentally friendly' catering options and technology to facilitate a sustainable business.
The caterer's waste and recycling programme was also said to have impressed the judges.
According to its website, the venue’s 50-cover cafe recycles 95% of its waste.
The venue is made up of seven naturally lit, fully equipped meeting rooms with panoramic views over the Royal Victoria Docks, and a state-of-the-art auditorium.
The Crystal is part of Siemens’ Sustainable Cities Initiative and was the first venue in the world to simultaneously hold the Platinum accreditation in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Outstanding accreditation in Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).
Zsanett Sedro, Siemens commercial assistant, said: “We are thrilled that our hard work and commitment has once again been recognised, and this is testament to the hard work from everyone to ensure that the Crystal continues to be a pioneer in sustainability, in everything from its building design to its catering facilities.”
