Abstract
Compass Group UK & Ireland’s creative manager for sports, leisure & hospitality, Roy Westwood, has been selected as a judge for the panel of the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2012.
The Restaurant & Bar Design Awards is the only awards scheme dedicated to hospitality design. It recognises and rewards entrants for design excellence and receives entries from the world's top architects, designers and hospitality operators.
Westwood has overseen the refurbishment and concept development of many high profile sites, including the Barbican Foodhall and Lounge. Among these were nominations at this year's Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, where the Barbican Lounge won Best Independent Restaurant and Best Restaurant, and the Barbican Foodhall took the accolade of Best Bar or Club in another space. He has also worked on Tom Aikens' dining destinations Tom's Kitchen and Tom's Deli at Somerset House, plus two new eateries at Edinburgh Zoo – one of which, Grasslands, was awarded the Roses Interior Design award last month. He commented: "In a restaurant or a bar environment it is important that not all design elements are revealed at once. The design should unfold during the visit and through subsequent visits so the customer is experiencing and finding something new over time. "It helps to tell a story, I think it's important that design touches relate back to the original space, enhancing the history of that building or space."
The Restaurant & Bar design Awards 2012 will be open for entries from 9 January 2012.
