The competition, spearheaded by the UK’s largest chain of Kashmiri restaurants, the Aagrah Group, and its managing director and executive chef Mohammed Aslam, aims to encourage chefs to be creative and adventurous with their own recipes.
It is open to professional chefs from all culinary and cultural backgrounds currently working in restaurants, hotels and for food manufacturers, who are able to produce South Asian cuisine.
Eight chefs will be short-listed from the paper entries to take part in the final at Bradford College’s new Studio School on October 15.
The challenge calls for competitors to produce a starter, a seafood dish, two main courses using chicken, lamb or vegetables – one as a healthy option and the other as an innovative dish, plus a rice dish.
The dishes will be judged on taste, presentation, seasoning, culinary skills, working methods and overall balance, and the winner will be presented with the 2012 title and the top prize of £1,000 at Aagrah’s 30th annual charity business dinner at the Aagrah Midpoint Suite on October 15.
