Council introduces ‘community fridge’ in bid to reduce food waste
Abstract
North Norfolk District Council has opened a community fridge in an effort to tackle food waste, it was reported by ITV.

The initiative is supported by environmental charity Hubbub UK. Local residents and hospitality businesses will be able to deposit excess food in a bid to reduce food waste.

The community fridge is located in Café Kitale and it will be accessible on weekdays between 10am and 2pm for those who need it.

The average household throws away £700 worth of food every year, while four million of the UK’s population live in food poverty.

Councillor Nigel Lloyd, North Norfolk District Council’s portfolio holder for environment, said: “Following on from the successful Fakenham community fridge which has been operational for several years, it is hoped that the North Walsham scheme will replicate their success."

Community fridges have already opened in Frome, London and Swadlincote.
