Council chef to cook with leftover food

25th Jun 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Phil Ogden, Bolton School Meals Service’s training and development chef will be cooking with leftovers in a bid to raise awareness about the benefits of recycling.
This year's Recycle Week in Bolton will encourage people to waste less and try something new in an effort to get greener. A number of events will take place from Monday June 22 to Sunday June 28, and will include workshops to show how the town's residents can cut back on waste and improve their recycling levels. Phil will be assisted by the recycling team on Thursday in cooking recipes designed by top chefs to show how to save money and help the environment by wasting less food. The cooking equipment and food will be being provided by Bolton Market, and the cooked food will be offered to the public. Recipe cards and kitchen tips will be available for people to take home. Sufrana Bashir-Ismail from Bolton Council said: "Recycle Week will provide the perfect opportunity for us to promote the value of recycling and reusing as much as possible, and reducing the amount of waste we send to landfill. "The Love Food Hate Waste campaign will encourage residents to not waste food and use left over food in imaginative ways. I hope there will be some imaginative pledges from the borough's residents, and that we can make a real difference together." For more information, please visit www.recyclenow.com
