Abstract
A Franco-British initiative to encourage the catering industry work more sustainably will be showcasing how it works at a Cross-Channel Forum in London on September 28th.

The venue is Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre in London, SE1 9NH, and organisers promise it will be ‘an occasion to celebrate and explore the ways we can cater for a sustainable future, as part of the Cool Food Pro project’.

The event will offer the opportunity to find out more about the project and hear from speakers from the Soil Association, contract caterer CH&Co, and waste reduction organisation WRAP on carbon reduction.

Organisers say: “You will learn more about climate-friendly menus and food waste in practical workshops, and network with other food leaders across England and France. It’s free to attend and you’ll leave equipped with new tools to reduce your environmental impact.”

The initiative is backed by the European Regional Investment Fund to support caterers make changes to how they source ingredients and plan menus, to reduce the impact on the environment.

Cool Food Pro is a carbon savings calculator tool designed specifically for the catering sector.

It is free, said to be ‘easy to use’ and calculates a catering operation’s environmental impact and then suggests ways to make positive changes.
